Oiled finish. Handmade by Stephen McRae so dimensions, colour and shape may vary. Robin on a stick with a bronze-brazed chest and hook for hanging a lantern or fatball. Named the Bold as Brass Robin, because this Robin’s distinctive chest is created by melting solid brass (process known as brazing) onto the 3mm thick steel cut out. The brass flows freely, guided by the intense heat from the handheld flame from the oxy acetylene torch. This creates a unique outline every time. It is then welded onto a 6mm diameter round steel rod 1200mm long which has previously been forged to have a hook ideal for hanging birdfeeders (coconuts, fatballs) and small lanterns from.
Each robin is given a sand and polish before coating in an environmentally user-friendly vegetable-based oil and wax finish. Left outside exposed to the elements this design will oxidise slowly leaving a lovely natural finish more in keeping with a robin’s plumage. The brass element will dull over time but can easily be cleaned back to its original bright finish. If you wish to keep the whole robin pristine and original in appearance, then we recommend you regularly oil and wax it or treat with any clear protective lacquer (sprayed or painted on).

Untreated oxidised robin
Whether used to hold a birdfeeder, lantern, support plants or just as a sculpture within the borders to create year round interest, the “Bold As Brass Robin” seems to capture that proud, loveable and endearing quality of our red breasted British Robin that we all know and love.
