Handmade by Stephen McRae so dimensions, colour and shape may vary. Made from mild steel each of these toadstool heads are forged over the anvil and shaping horn using a handheld hammer. When I am happy with the shape, they are then welded onto some 12mm round bar that I have previously formed into a gentle curve. They are then arranged into a group and welded together. They are then sent to the galvanisers where they are dipped in molten zinc, this will make them 100% weatherproof. Once home the fresh galvanised finish is acid etched which makes it go a lovely slate grey colour that has texture and subtle colour tones from black to grey. This group of 5 toadstool heads were then painted with a gold size before applying a silver leaf. I applied the silver leaf just to the top section of each toadstool head, with a random crackled effect allowing the colours of the galvanised steel underneath to come through. The toadstools are supplied with a hidden nut and bolt fixing at the base to either be bolted to a stone as in the illustration, a 3 fingered prong for concreting or pushing into grass/soil or bolting on to a patio slab. Whatever best suits your situation.
