Handmade by Stephen McRae so dimensions, colour and shape may vary. Forged and formed in the same way as the original Seaweed Sculptures with one difference being that one frond is made from solid 50mm x 3mm flat copper. The whole sculpture is arranged first with the position of the copper frond in place, drilled and bolted on. The sculpture is bolted down to the floor and shaped. The copper frond is then unbolted, removed and the rest of the sculpture goes to the galvanisers to be galvanised where they are dipped in molten zinc, this will make them 100% weatherproof. When the now galvanised seaweed returns it is fettled to remove sharp edges and points and then acid etched which makes it go a lovely slate grey colour that has texture and subtle colour tones from black to grey. The copper frond is then riveted onto the galvanised and etched sculpture with solid 8mm copper rivets and tweaked to get the perfect flowing form. The galvanised, acid etched fronds and copper frond give lovely colour contrasts that will over time continue with subtle colour changes and Verdigris.
