Oil and wax finish. Handmade by Stephen McRae so dimensions, colour and shape may vary. Similar to the wrought Iron Wren this cut out has been heated in the gas furnace, forged over the anvil using a cross pein hammer and then, like the Bold as Brass Robin, brazed on both sides with solid brass giving it the distinct general bee stripes. As with the bird designs the bee too is sitting above, poised for take-off from a 1200mm tall, 6mm diameter round steel rod that also doubles up as a hook to hold a birdfeeder, lantern, support plants or just as a sculpture within the borders to create year round interest. Each bee is given a sand and polish before coating in an environmentally user-friendly vegetable based oil and wax finish. Left outside exposed to the elements this design will oxidise slowly leaving a lovely natural finish. The brass element will dull over time but can easily be cleaned back to its original bright finish. If you wish to keep the Bee pristine and original in appearance, then we recommend you regularly oil and wax it or treat with any clear protective lacquer (sprayed or painted on) before putting outside. This Busy Bee design truly has had more than its fair share of hands-on work and detail, reminding us of who the real “Heroes” of our Gardens are!
